Local manufacturing facility specializing in oxygen and nitrogen generating systems in N Tonawanda looking for a senior design engineer to join their team!!

JOB DUTIES:

  • Create, correct, & revise drawings of parts.
  • Create, correct & revise assemblies, subassemblies, top-level product drawings.
  • Maintaining & updating Bill of Material (B.O.M.) on drawings, checking for correct parts, quantities, part numbers (p/n), & making sure the person in charge of Master B.O.M.’s is notified of changes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, specifications, scope of supply contracts and computer-generated reports from our customers and prospective customers.
  • Endeavor to continuously improve our company’s productivity and efficiency by reducing our total production costs through improved design, ease of fabrication or qualifying alternative vendors.
  • Use The Engineering Change Notice (ECN) System and Product Data Management (PDM) software to ensure that only the most current and correct versions of drawings can be modified or used on future orders.
  • Follow our ISO Design Procedures and provide ideas on how to upgrade and improve these.
  • Direct and assist in the assembly of product manuals and improve the process for manual assembly.
  • Participate in various hands-on R&D projects related to new product development, product improvement, cost reduction, and new product implementation.
  • Design complete custom jobs for customers based on specifications provided by the sales team. Create complete drawing packages with schematics and BoM.
  • Participate in the creation of ‘Design History Files’ for product lines in preparation for FDA 510K submissions for medical devices and or FAA PMA processes. Includes identifying user needs, design inputs/outputs, validating/verifying product design, creating risk assessment & design traceability matrix files.
  • Attend/Participate in Job Feasibility and Contract Review meetings. Senior Design engineers have the authority and responsibility to review job specifications and act as a final sign-off of approval from the engineering department to proceed or reject a contract.
  • Provide final ECN and Temporary Deviation authority and approval.
  • Act as a supervisor to co-workers in engineering department with the authority to oversee, delegate and manage various engineering projects.
  • Provide final acceptance and approval of engineering work done by other members of the engineering department.
  • Monitor and Review drawing packages, engineering documentation, and procedures created by the department with the responsibility to intervene and prevent inaccurate documentation from release to other departments of the company.
  • In the absence of the Engineering Manager, temporarily manage and oversee the department in all aspects, including department decisions. Acting as second in command for the department.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years hands-on experience/knowledge in:

  • Working in a manufacturing production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to design products, improving existing product design.
  • Implementing lean/six sigma concepts.
  • Customer interfacing, contract negotiations, etc.
  • 3D modeling. SolidWorks or Fusion 360 preferred, but not required. Must be fluent in 3D software.
  • 2D CAD for schematic generation (AutoCAD, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of programming and operating 3D and resin printers, a plus. (Used for various R&D projects).
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Manages time effectively and adapts quickly to changing priorities.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Team player who works productively with a wide range of people.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Background in ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA 510K, Medical Devices, or AS 9100 and FAA PMA is a plus.
